A sponsor list can send you to the right employer and still leave you applying to the wrong job.
The company filed immigration paperwork before. That does not tell you whether today's opening supports your status, seniority or start date. Use the history to find leads, then verify the requisition before investing in it.
Start with the sponsor directory, then check the live job
The directory is the place for employer tables and detailed filing records. This article adds the interpretation: which evidence to trust, how to match it to a real role and what to ask before an interview process consumes your search time.
For each possible employer, save the source window, legal employer name, relevant job family and live job identifier. Then add a separate field for current sponsorship confirmation. Leave it unknown until the employer actually answers.
Companies worth investigating in the 2026 data
The same primary summary names CGI Technologies & Solutions and several Goldman Sachs legal entities. These examples give tech and data professionals research directions across product companies, semiconductors, consulting and financial services. They do not establish an open vacancy, hiring commitment or current sponsorship policy for a particular candidate.
For smaller employers, use the same evidence standard. Brand familiarity is not a substitute for a relevant live role and an employer willing to handle the needed petition.
LCA data, USCIS petitions and job postings measure different things
| Evidence | What it helps establish | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| DOL LCA record | The employer's filing and stated labor-condition details | A USCIS approval or a current vacancy |
| USCIS employer petition data | Recorded petition decisions in the reported period | A promise to sponsor your application |
| Employer job posting | A role advertised with stated requirements | Immigration approval for a particular candidate |
| Requisition-specific HR confirmation | The employer's current policy for that opportunity | A guaranteed petition outcome |
Match the employer to your actual job family
A company's immigration history is only useful when the work fits. Start with titles and duties you can defend in an interview, then look for relevant activity in the records.
For a software engineer, compare the stack, level and scope. A senior platform role is not an entry-level opening because both contain “software.” For a data analyst, distinguish reporting and business intelligence from applied machine learning or data infrastructure. Do not let a broad keyword match conceal a different profession.
A useful shortlist record has:
- Exact legal employer and live vacancy URL.
- Job identifier, role family, level and location.
- Evidence of relevant historical filings and its date window.
- Current sponsorship wording or the question still unanswered.
- Recruiter, interview stage and next action.
First H-1B sponsorship and a change of employer differ
Recruiters sometimes use “sponsorship” to cover several different processes. Ask what they mean.
For a current H-1B worker, ask whether this requisition supports a change of employer and when immigration counsel can review your dates. For an OPT graduate, ask whether the employer accepts your current authorization and whether future petition support is available for the role. A promise to accept an EAD today is not a promise to file a future H-1B petition.
I am interested in [job identifier] because of my experience in [specific work]. My current authorization is [accurate category and dates]. Could you confirm whether this requisition supports [the process actually needed], and whether your immigration team can review my situation before a start date is agreed?
Keep the message short. You want a policy answer and the correct contact, not an immigration opinion from a recruiter unfamiliar with the documents.
OPT, STEM OPT and H-4 EAD candidates need different filters
Cap-exempt employers are another route to investigate
Treat this as an additional search lane. Your shortlist can contain commercial and institutional employers, with the petition route and remaining questions recorded separately. A good fit in either lane deserves a clear next action.
Read 2026 fee headlines before changing your search
These statements describe dated source documents, checked October 15, 2026. Have employer counsel verify current court orders, fee instructions and applicability before filing. Do not promise that litigation is permanently resolved or tell a recruiter that every transfer requires the headline payment.
- 01Use historical filing evidence to find leads, then verify the live requisition.
- 02Keep LCA positions, USCIS decisions and current openings separate.
- 03Ask about your actual petition or authorization needs before assuming the company can support them.
Does a company on an H-1B sponsor list sponsor every role?
No. A historical filing is not a current hiring commitment. Confirm the legal employer, role and required petition process with HR. DOL program requirements.
Can I treat an LCA as a job offer?
No. The LCA is a labor-condition filing used in the employer petition process. It is not a personal offer or USCIS approval. 8 CFR 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(B).
Should a STEM OPT candidate search only H-1B sponsors?
No. Future H-1B support may matter, but current STEM eligibility also requires E-Verify participation and a qualifying training arrangement. Verify both. 8 CFR 214.2(f)(10)(ii)(C).
