Salesforce Layoffs 2026: Latest Cuts, Timeline, WARN Notices

Short answer

Salesforce layoffs 2026: the 133 jobs with an Oct 5 effective date, reported rounds since 2023, WARN records, AI claims and the reported US severance policy.

Salesforce's revenue rose 11% last quarter, to $11.3 billion. A growing business can still eliminate your role.

If you work there, every reorg email deserves a second read. The practical questions are which cuts are documented, whether your team is affected, and what your exit terms say.

Salesforce layoffs today: latest update (as of October 9, 2026)

The latest identified round had an October 5, 2026 effective date. Its August notices are evidence of scheduled cuts, not confirmation that every separation happened exactly as planned.
  • August 5, 2026: California EDD recorded 74 employees at 415 Mission Street, San Francisco, effective October 5. The Washington entry covers 59 employees in Seattle and Bellevue with the same effective date; GeekWire reported the state filing on August 6.
  • August 6, 2026: Salesforce Ben reported cuts across Tableau, Trailhead, community advocacy, events, Marketing Cloud and Industries Cloud, based on employee posts. One anonymous source said about half of the North America Tableau tech support team was affected, mostly in remote roles. Final numbers were not confirmed.
  • August 27, 2026: Salesforce's 10-Q reported $94 million in restructuring costs for May through July and $174 million for February through July.
  • October 9, 2026 check: California's current spreadsheet covers notices through October 7 and contains no later Salesforce entry. A news search covering the preceding 90 days found no later reported round. This is not a nationwide clearance of every state database.

Key Takeaway

The October 5 date belongs to notices recorded in August. Employees should check their own separation agreement for their actual last day and pay arrangements.

One notice gives a site's schedule. The timeline shows the broader pattern since 2023.

Salesforce layoffs timeline, 2023 to 2026

Salesforce announced its January 2023 reduction in an SEC filing and a letter from the CEO. Later cuts in this timeline are documented through WARN records, reporting and executive interviews.

Reported rounds and site-level notices can cover the same people. The table is a chronology, not a company-wide total.

Salesforce layoffs 2025: why the figures differ

February's report described more than 1,000 job cuts. Benioff's later 4,000 figure described a support team's headcount reduction over time. The September notices covered 355 California and Washington jobs, without identifying their teams. These are different measures, with possible overlap.

Key Takeaway

A headline about a global round and a notice for one office are not separate totals. Keep the reporting date, notice date and effective date alongside each count.

Press reports give you the broader picture. WARN records add site-level dates and counts.

Salesforce WARN notices by state

A WARN record answers three practical questions: which site, how many roles, and what effective date?

This is general information, not legal advice. Check California EDD's requirements, Washington ESD's requirements and the US Department of Labor's WARN guidance.

Salesforce WARN filings, 2023 to 2026

California rows were checked against EDD's annual reports and current spreadsheet on October 9. Washington's two entries are corroborated by GeekWire's reporting; their recorded dates come from compiled ESD records. The live Washington table could not be rechecked, so this is not an exhaustive Washington history.
EDD's older reports distinguish notice date from received date. The current spreadsheet uses processed date instead. Washington lists notices by date received. An effective date is the filing's schedule, not independent proof of completed departures.

Why WARN totals undercount Salesforce layoffs
  • Coverage depends on the applicable law, employer and site. Distributed cuts may not meet a filing threshold.
  • The 51-person March notice does not establish the total for February's reported round, or prove those were separate people.
  • Cuts outside the US never appear in US WARN databases.
The Informatica entry is a reason to check the dates carefully: January 12 to February 28 is 47 days, not 60. The report alone does not establish what notice each employee received or whether an exception applied.

Other state records checked

  • Texas: the Texas Workforce Commission WARN dataset (notices from January 2019 through June 23, 2026) lists no Salesforce, Tableau, Slack or MuleSoft notices.
  • Indiana (Indianapolis): the Department of Workforce Development's current WARN list shows no Salesforce notice in 2026.
  • New Jersey: no Salesforce, Tableau, Slack, MuleSoft or Informatica entry was found in the state's 2026 WARN archive, checked October 9.
  • North Carolina: no matching entry for those names was found in the 2026 summary list, updated October 7.
  • Massachusetts: no matching employer appeared in the FY2026 archive or the current report updated October 2. These are the checked report versions, not a claim about later notices.
  • New York: no Salesforce entry was found in the Department of Labor's 2024 list. That historical list cannot establish whether there were cuts in 2026; newer notices sit in the WARN dashboard.

These checks have different date ranges. They do not establish that no Salesforce layoffs occurred in those states, or elsewhere. Current records for Illinois, Colorado, Georgia, Florida and Ohio were not verified in this review. State records should take priority over compiled trackers.

How to check for a new filing yourself
California posts its WARN report every Tuesday and Thursday; search the spreadsheet for "Salesforce" and "Informatica." Washington's ESD database has a company search box. For how WARN works, and what back pay you may be owed if notice was skipped, see the WARN notice guide.
Key Takeaway

The notices listed here cover 1,980 Salesforce jobs plus 35 at Informatica, or 2,015 combined. Since 2024, the corresponding counts are 829 and 35. Neither is a complete global layoff total.

The site counts do not settle why a role disappeared. For that, read the company's statements and financial filings.

Salesforce layoffs and AI: are agents replacing jobs?

Salesforce's CEO has given two answers to this question. Both are on the record.

What Benioff said about the 4,000 support roles

In a Logan Bartlett Show interview published August 29, 2025, Benioff described how AI had changed his support organization.

I've reduced it from 9,000 heads to about 5,000, because I need less heads.

Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO, Salesforce — The Logan Bartlett Show, via CNBC, Sept 2, 2025

Salesforce told CNBC that Agentforce reduced support cases and the need to backfill support engineers. In February 2026, a spokesperson told CIO that hundreds of employees had moved into growth areas, with new roles in AI deployment, conversation design and architecture.

CX Today reported a different emphasis on April 6, 2026. Benioff called blaming AI for layoffs "the lazy way out" for some CEOs and described Salesforce's changes as workforce realignment. That is the report's publication date, not a verified date for the interview itself.

So the 4,000 figure is a reduction in support headcount, not a count of layoff notices. Salesforce has not said how many of those 4,000 were laid off, how many left and were not replaced, and how many moved to other teams. The WARN filings from that same week cover 355 people in California and Washington.

What the filings say: overhiring, margins and restructuring charges

The January 2023 announcement cited operating costs and margins. In his employee letter, Benioff took responsibility for hiring too many people during the pandemic's revenue surge.

Restructuring charges include workforce costs and, in some years, office exits. They cannot be converted into a layoff count:

Fiscal year (ends Jan 31)Restructuring chargesSource
FY2023 (Feb 2022 to Jan 2023)$828 million10-K for FY2025
FY2024$988 million10-K for FY2026
FY2025$461 million10-K for FY2026
FY2026$586 million10-K for FY2026
First half of FY2027 (Feb to Jul 2026)$174 million10-Q, Aug 27, 2026

The latest 10-Q links generative AI savings to reinvestment and says AI efficiency efforts may reduce sales, marketing and administrative expenses as a share of revenue.

Headcount: a smaller support team inside a bigger company

Salesforce's January 31, 2026 headcount exceeded its January 2023 count. This is a dated annual snapshot, not an October 2026 employee count.
DateEmployeesSource
Jan 31, 202379,390 (includes people notified in the 10% cut)10-K for FY2023

Jan 31, 202576,45310-K for FY2025
Jan 31, 202683,33410-K for FY2026

Acquisitions contributed to the total: Salesforce closed its roughly $9.6 billion purchase of Informatica in November 2025.

Key Takeaway

AI affected Salesforce's support staffing model. A company-wide employee count cannot show what is happening in your team, particularly when acquisitions and internal transfers change the total.

The company-wide numbers hide where it hurts. For many people the layoff arrived under a different logo.

Slack, Tableau, MuleSoft and Informatica cuts

If you work at a Salesforce company with its own brand, your layoff may not get its own headline. The notices above use the Salesforce parent name, except the Informatica entry.

Key Takeaway

Search under the parent company's name as well as the unit's brand. A Salesforce site notice does not identify a unit, and matching dates alone do not prove that two reports cover the same team.

Knowing your team was hit is step one. Knowing what the exit is worth is the step that pays the rent.

Salesforce severance and benefits (as reported)

The number that matters most after a layoff is not the headcount. It is the number of weeks.

Business Insider's June 9, 2026 report describes an internal US policy, not a public guarantee:

Policy elementAs reported (June 2026)
Base severance9 weeks of base pay (senior managers and below); 13 weeks (directors and senior directors)
TenurePlus 3 weeks per year of service; partial years count as full years
AgePlus 4 weeks at age 60 or older, at any level
Cap26 weeks, or 30 weeks at age 60 or older
Health coverage6 months of COBRA; 12 months at age 60 or older

Business Insider reported that June's California notice kept affected employees on payroll through August 7. That arrangement is specific to that notice; paid notice and severance are separate terms to check.

For context, Benioff's 2023 letter promised US employees at least nearly five months of pay, alongside health coverage, career resources and other benefits.

Example profileWeeks under the reported formula
Senior manager, 4 years 2 months, age 459 + (5 years x 3) = 24 weeks
Software engineer below senior manager, 2 years, age 619 + (2 x 3) + 4 = 19 weeks
Director, 6 years, age 5013 + (6 x 3) = 31, capped at 26 weeks
Your agreement is the only number that counts
These are estimates from a reported policy, not a promise. Offers can differ by country, level, and individual circumstances. Check the math in your own separation agreement, and read what you are signing away before you sign. The complete severance guide covers taxes, release terms and what is negotiable.
What to get in writing from Salesforce HR

Key Takeaway

Verify the pay calculation, benefit premiums and signing deadline in your own offer. A reported company policy does not establish an individual's entitlement.

Official numbers only go so far. The forums fill the gap, with all the reliability that implies.

What Salesforce employees are saying (unverified)

Unverified employee reports

These are anonymous forum posts, not verified employment records or company policy. They cannot establish a round's size, an individual's benefits or the timing of future cuts.

  • Dates and rumors: Blind's Salesforce layoff discussions include February and August 2026 posts about notice periods and possible cuts. A posted date matching a WARN date does not verify the author's story.
  • Package concerns: TheLayoff's Salesforce board contains questions about severance, COBRA, internal transfers and workload. Different anonymous accounts cannot establish a standard package or company-wide morale.
  • Where people land: in a thread for laid-off Salesforce workers, one commenter described opportunities at smaller Salesforce partners alongside concerns about pay and hours. This is one person's account, not hiring-market data.

Sentiment tells you how people feel. It does not tell you what to do on Monday morning.

If you were affected: first steps for Salesforce employees

Your first week is admin, not applications. These steps are specific to how Salesforce layoffs have worked since 2023.

Step 01: Pin down your dates

Ask HR for your last working day, employment end date and pay schedule. June 2026 reporting described California employees remaining on payroll through August 7; confirm your own arrangement and internal application deadline.

Step 02: Check the severance math before you sign

Compare your offer with the reported formula above. If it differs, ask HR how it was calculated, in writing.

Step 03: Apply internally inside the window

Salesforce let displaced workers apply for internal roles in 2025, and says it has redeployed hundreds of employees to high-growth areas. Ask whether you are eligible, and get the deadline.

Step 04: Lock in health coverage and file for unemployment

Compare your COBRA terms with a Marketplace plan. Generally, file unemployment in the state where you worked; ask the agency about multi-state work and how notice pay or severance affects eligibility. If the paperwork records anything other than a layoff, laid off vs fired explains how the reason can change the claim. The Department of Labor's state-office directory provides contacts.

Step 05: Restart your search with a short layoff story

Salesforce's rounds have been widely reported, so a short, factual explanation is enough: two sentences, then your results. The layoff interview scripts cover the follow-up questions. Then ask former colleagues who have already landed elsewhere for referrals; the referral guide has the scripts.

2. Whether I am expected to work during the notice period
3. My severance amount in weeks and how it was calculated (level, years of service, age)
4. My COBRA coverage period and premium arrangement
5. Treatment of unvested RSUs, bonus and accrued PTO
6. Whether I can apply for internal roles, and the deadline

Key Takeaway

After a Salesforce layoff, secure your dates, pay and health coverage, then confirm whether internal applications remain open. Do not assume another round's notice period or benefits apply to you.

Will there be more Salesforce layoffs?

The reviewed filings do not announce another round. Their cost forecasts need careful reading.

  • Near-term charges: the July 31, 2026 10-Q forecasts no significant additional restructuring charges in the near term.
  • Existing obligations: it estimates $170 million to $190 million in future restructuring payments, largely workforce costs. Payments under existing plans do not announce a new layoff round.
  • Further efficiencies: it says Salesforce continues evaluating cost and management-structure programs.
Key Takeaway

A forecast about restructuring expenses is not a promise that jobs are safe. The reviewed filings give no date or headcount for a further round.

Key takeaways
  1. 01Latest identified round: 74 San Francisco and 59 Seattle and Bellevue jobs had an October 5, 2026 WARN effective date. Those notices were recorded in August.
  2. 02February reporting described fewer than 1,000 roles. The listed 2026 notices cover 270 Salesforce jobs plus 35 at Informatica, with possible overlap with reported rounds.
  3. 03Benioff said AI agents let Salesforce cut support from 9,000 to about 5,000 people; the company says it stopped backfilling and redeployed hundreds.
  4. 04Salesforce headcount still grew to 83,334 by January 31, 2026, two months after it closed the Informatica acquisition.
  5. 05Use the reported US severance policy to check your offer; confirm individual eligibility, premiums and deadlines in writing.
  6. 06Restructuring charges: $586 million in fiscal 2026 and $174 million from February to July 2026.

FAQ

FAQ

Is Salesforce laying off in October 2026?

The latest identified notices had an October 5, 2026 effective date for 133 jobs: 74 in San Francisco and 59 in Seattle and Bellevue. They were recorded in August. No later round was found in the reporting reviewed through October 9 or California's records through October 7.

How many employees has Salesforce laid off in 2026?

No company-wide total was found. Business Insider reported fewer than 1,000 roles affected in February. The listed 2026 WARN records cover 270 Salesforce jobs plus 35 at Informatica. Site notices and broader reporting may overlap, so they cannot simply be summed.

Does Salesforce give severance?

Yes, a June 2026 report describes an internal US severance policy. Use the policy table and worked examples above to check your written offer, including eligibility and health benefits.

Will there be more Salesforce layoffs?

The reviewed reporting identifies no further round. Salesforce's latest 10-Q discusses efficiency programs but gives no date or headcount for another reduction. It does not guarantee that there will be no future cuts.

Did Salesforce lay off 4,000 people because of AI?

Marc Benioff said AI agents let Salesforce cut customer support from 9,000 to about 5,000 people. The company said it stopped backfilling support engineer roles and redeployed hundreds of employees, so 4,000 is a headcount reduction, not a confirmed count of layoffs. WARN filings that week covered 355 people in California and Washington.

Did Slack or Tableau have layoffs?

Yes. Business Insider reported a 10% reduction in Slack's product and engineering group in January 2023. Salesforce Ben's August 2026 Tableau report relied on an anonymous source for its team estimate. Parent-company WARN counts do not independently verify that estimate.

How many employees does Salesforce have?

Salesforce had 83,334 employees as of January 31, 2026, according to its 10-K. That is up from 76,453 a year earlier and 72,682 in January 2024, after the 2023 layoff.

Where can I check Salesforce WARN notices?

Search California EDD's WARN spreadsheet for Salesforce and Informatica, and Washington ESD's database under the parent company's name. Check the databases for other relevant states too; this article does not claim nationwide coverage.
