T-Mobile Layoffs 2026: Latest Cuts, Timeline & WARN Notices

Short answer

T-Mobile layoffs in 2026: verified cuts, the 4,671 net FTE decline, WARN notices by state, the 2023 timeline, severance facts and next steps for employees.

An "org update" lands on the calendar. The forums name one team; a state notice names another. Neither answers whether your role is affected.

T-Mobile's latest restructuring spans corporate offices, business-facing teams and retail stores. The useful distinction is between a confirmed notice, a net change in workforce size and an anonymous report. Each answers a different question.

T-Mobile layoffs today: latest update (as of October 8, 2026)

October's scheduled separations come from earlier notices. Filing dates and separation dates describe different events.

  • October 6, 2026: the estimated first day of separations for 113 workers at T-Mobile's Customer Experience Center in Irving, Texas, where the company is winding down its virtual business sales function. The site stays open (WFAA, citing T-Mobile's August 7 letter to the Texas Workforce Commission).
  • September 28, 2026: the latest amendment date in Illinois's live Schaumburg record. Its revised total is 337, with 172 workers scheduled for April 2 and groups of 147 and 18 scheduled for August 3. These are revisions to the January notice, not 337 newly announced September layoffs (Illinois workNet live record).
  • September 21 to November 18, 2026: separations for 77 Washington employees under the August 26 notice. T-Mobile said 63 are newly affected and 14 were moved over from an earlier notice. The Canyon Pointe corporate office in Bothell closes, along with stores in Seattle, Vancouver, Tacoma, Yakima and Kennewick (KOMO News).
  • August 6, 2026: Deutsche Telekom published its first-half report: 65,365 United States operating segment full-time equivalents on June 30, down a net 4,671 since December 31, 2025 (headcount table, publication date).
  • Q2 2026: T-Mobile began closing selected dealer and company-owned stores and recorded a $108 million pre-tax charge for those retail initiatives (Q2 2026 10-Q).

October 6 forum reports about Wholesale and IT remain unverified. The notices establish schedules, not confirmation of every separation.

Use the WARN notice for a site's schedule and the separation agreement for an employee's terms. An FTE figure cannot establish either.

T-Mobile layoffs 2025 and 2026: timeline since 2023

The 2023 reduction had an announced headcount target. The current program began in late 2025. This newest-first timeline distinguishes layoff notices from financial disclosures and acquisition transfers.

T-Mobile WARN notices by state

A WARN filing is where T-Mobile has to put numbers in writing, site by site. It is also easy to misread.

The table covers specific sites. Irving is verified through WFAA's reporting on the company letter; tracker-only leads are separate.

The original August Washington letter also marked a Bellingham store as closing. GeekWire corrected that detail after an error in the filing was identified. The five-store count above reflects the correction; Bellingham remains listed as an affected location.
Listed by trackers only. WARNTracker also lists a Louisville, Kentucky notice for 74 workers (January 31, 2026), an Oklahoma City notice with no worker count (August 17, 2026), and 2023 notices in Washington (401, Bellevue), Tennessee (127, Hamilton County), Maryland (40, Beltsville) and Maine. Those state records could not be opened directly for this update, so treat them as leads.
Coverage limits. State lists update at different speeds, and filings may appear under an acquired company's legal name. Texas's retrieved open-data extract contained the Austin notice but did not yet contain the August Irving letter, which WFAA reported separately. A missing row is not evidence that no layoffs occurred.
No T-Mobile row appeared in California's July 2025 to June 2026 report, its current workbook, or North Carolina's 2026 list, last updated October 7. These are checks of named records, not proof of zero layoffs in those states.
Why the Washington numbers keep changing

The February 2, 2026 Washington notice was reported as 393 jobs the day it was released. Fierce Network saw 446 in the state database by March 31. On October 8, 2026, the database lists 637. The state's count has been revised upward over time, so always check the state database itself, not the first headline.

How WARN thresholds work
WARN records are not a complete layoff count. Coverage thresholds, state rules and amendments affect what appears in a database. The August Washington notice alone repeats 14 workers from an earlier notice. Do not add every row or compare that sum directly with a six-month net FTE change. See Texas Mass Layoffs: How WARN Notices Work.
Key Takeaway

Search the legal employer and site, then check amendments and deferred separations. Counting each version as a new round can duplicate workers.

T-Mobile layoffs 2026: why jobs are being cut

T-Mobile's service revenue grew 9% year over year in Q2 2026, to $18.98 billion (10-Q). Its restructuring disclosures describe operational changes alongside that growth.
1. The 2025-2026 Workforce Transformation. T-Mobile says it is bringing leaders and teams together, removing management layers and reducing duplicate positions. The company intends to reinvest savings in digital initiatives (10-Q).
2. Fewer stores, more app. In August 2026 T-Mobile told Fierce it plans a smaller retail footprint, with more company-owned stores and digital support such as T-Life (Fierce Network). Fierce also reported that Gopalan told a December 2025 investor event that 70% of upgrades were happening through digital channels (Fierce Network).
3. Acquisition integration. T-Mobile's 10-K lists severance among the restructuring costs of the UScellular acquisition, alongside network decommissioning and contract terminations (10-K).
The other national carriers are cutting as well; see the Verizon layoffs and AT&T layoffs trackers.

Key Takeaway

T-Mobile attributes the restructuring to fewer layers, duplicate roles and digital changes. Its Q2 2026 service revenue grew 9% during those changes.

Corporate, retail, care, or an acquired brand: who is affected

Corporate cuts, store closures and acquisition transfers have different consequences for affected employees.

Corporate and IT

Bellevue, Washington, and Overland Park, Kansas, are T-Mobile's two headquarters, according to its 10-K. GeekWire's breakdown of the original 393-person February Washington notice counted more than 200 job titles, nearly 210 senior and director-level roles, and seven VP or SVP roles. That breakdown does not describe all 637 workers in the revised count (GeekWire). In March 2026 T-Mobile confirmed role eliminations within its IT organization (Fierce Network).

Business sales and care

Two 2026 filings name business-facing teams. Irving is losing its virtual business sales function (WFAA). Denver's notice says business sales care is "no longer operating at the facility" (CDLE). Chattanooga (200) and Austin (74) share Denver's June 8, 2026 date; their filings do not state the function.

Retail stores

This is the biggest change from 2023, when the CEO's email said retail and consumer care experts "will not be impacted." In 2026 the 10-Q confirms store closures, and the August Washington notice includes store managers and mobile associates (KOMO News).

UScellular and acquired brands

UScellular's March 26, 2025 WARN letter anticipated separations for about 4,100 employees of USCC Management Services beginning June 2, subject to the sale timetable. It also said T-Mobile would offer jobs to a majority on terms at least as favorable overall. The transaction ultimately closed August 1 (10-K). That notice does not establish 4,100 net job losses.
T-Mobile accounts for former UScellular store-closure costs separately from its other retail initiatives (10-Q). For acquired brands such as Mint Mobile, check the legal employer on the notice or separation agreement rather than assuming a T-Mobile filing covers the role.
Key Takeaway

Check the employer and function on the notice. For an acquisition transfer, also check job offers before treating the notice count as lost jobs.

How many employees does T-Mobile have now?

Two official numbers circulate, and they do not match. Both are correct.

Full-time and part-time employeesDec 31, 2025About 75,000T-Mobile 10-K

United States operating segment FTEsDec 31, 202570,036Deutsche Telekom
United States operating segment FTEsJun 30, 202665,365Deutsche Telekom
T-Mobile's 10-K counts people, full-time and part-time. Deutsche Telekom counts full-time equivalents, so part-time staff count as fractions. United States is the parent's operating-segment label, not a separately identified U.S.-resident employee count. The dates and measures also differ, so 75,000 minus 65,365 is not a valid layoff calculation.
The comparable figures fell by 4,671 FTEs, or 6.7%, primarily due to the Workforce Transformation, according to Deutsche Telekom. Net change includes hiring, attrition and business changes, so it cannot supply a gross layoff count. T-Mobile attributed its 2025 headcount increase to acquisitions and restructuring timing (Fierce Network).
Key Takeaway

Compare FTEs with FTEs at matching dates. The 4,671 net decline is not an individual layoff tally; 75,000 employees uses a different measure.

T-Mobile severance: what is documented

The official 2023 package is public. A 2026 payout requires the current agreement.

What T-Mobile put in writing (2023)

In the August 24, 2023 email filed with the SEC, then-CEO Mike Sievert listed the package for that round:
T-Mobile's 2023 severance terms, as written
0/7

What the 2025 and 2026 filings show

  • Notice: GeekWire reported 60 days of notice for the original February Washington group, and the Irving letter promised at least 60 days in advance (GeekWire, WFAA). Advance notice alone does not establish a paid-leave or severance entitlement.
  • Costs recognized: $390 million in severance costs in 2025 plus $141 million in the first half of 2026, $531 million cumulatively. That is an expense disclosure, not cash reserved for future payments; the program's remaining severance liability was $169 million on June 30 (10-Q).
  • Internal moves: the Irving letter encouraged affected employees to apply for open positions (WFAA). It did not guarantee placement.
  • Unions: the Chattanooga memo, Irving letter and August Washington letter say the affected workers have no union representation or bumping rights. That statement applies to those groups.
The reviewed company disclosures do not publish a standard severance formula for affected 2026 employees. In March, T-Mobile described transition support without giving a payment formula (Fierce Network).

What employees report in 2026 (unverified)

In a January 2026 TheLayoff.com thread discussing April 2 separations, anonymous posters describe 8 weeks of base pay plus 2 weeks per year of service, capped at 26 weeks. They disagree about whether paid notice is included. A later Reddit severance discussion also describes uncertainty about documentation and payment timing. These are unverified, disputed employee reports, not T-Mobile's official 2026 terms. Do not use them to calculate an expected payout. For the formulas employers commonly use and the terms worth negotiating, see how severance pay works.
General information, not legal advice
For employees age 40 or older, a valid waiver of federal age-discrimination claims generally requires at least 21 days to review an individual agreement, or 45 days for an exit incentive or group termination program, plus 7 days to revoke after signing. Group programs also require specified disclosures about the employees considered and selected (EEOC). These rules concern the waiver, not every severance offer. An employment lawyer can check the agreement and applicable state law.
Key Takeaway

Obtain the current agreement before calculating a payout. Historical terms, notice periods and company-wide expenses do not establish the individual package.

What employees are saying (unverified)

Everything in this section comes from anonymous or semi-anonymous posts. Use it as a lead, never as confirmation.

  • TheLayoff.com: recent threads (as of October 8, 2026) describe changes in the Wholesale division and rumors of IT cuts around October 6. The posts do not establish a confirmed headcount or company-wide round.
  • Reddit r/tmobile: the thread on the 4,500-plus cuts includes posts criticizing leadership for not announcing the reductions publicly, as Verizon's CEO did.
  • Blind: a page collecting discussions about T-Mobile layoffs. A public post does not verify its author's role or the accuracy of the claim.
How to use forum posts

Treat a forum post as a question to ask your manager or HR, not as an answer. If a post names your org and a date, ask in writing whether your role is affected and when you will be told.

If the notice has already arrived, get the dates and terms in writing before acting on a thread.

If T-Mobile laid you off: your first 10 days

Confirm whether your notice period is paid leave with benefits, and check how the paperwork describes the exit; laid off vs fired explains why that wording matters for unemployment and references. Then lock in dates, money and coverage before applying.

For the coverage choices, use HealthCare.gov's job-loss guidance. USAGov explains where to file unemployment claims; remote or interstate workers should ask their home state's unemployment office for filing help.

Key Takeaway

After a T-Mobile layoff notice, secure four dates in writing, review the separation agreement before signing, settle health coverage, and use the notice period to apply internally and externally at the same time.

Will there be more T-Mobile layoffs?

The Q2 2026 10-Q describes remaining work under the existing restructuring:
  • Remaining separations: T-Mobile had recognized nearly all of the program's costs and expected nearly all remaining employee separations and related payments during 2026.
  • Retail review: the company was considering further restructuring associated with its retail initiatives.
Those statements name no next team or new total. Deutsche Telekom schedules its Q3 report for November 5, 2026; check it and state amendments for updates.
Key Takeaway

Remaining separations and a retail review are documented. Predictions about a particular team's next cut are not established by the filing.

Key takeaways
  1. 01Deutsche Telekom reported a net decline of 4,671 United States segment FTEs (6.7%) to 65,365 in the first half of 2026; this is not a gross layoff tally.
  2. 02October 6 was the estimated first separation date for 113 Irving workers; the August Washington notice schedules 77 separations through November 18.
  3. 03Revisions matter: the February Washington notice now lists 637, and Illinois's live Schaumburg record lists 337 after amendments through September 28.
  4. 04Unlike 2023, the 2025-2026 cuts reach retail stores and business sales and care teams, not just corporate roles.
  5. 05T-Mobile recorded $531 million in severance costs through June 30, 2026; the official 2023 package and current advance notice do not establish an employee's 2026 payout.
FAQ

Is T-Mobile laying off in October 2026?

Yes, notices schedule separations during October: 113 Irving workers from an estimated October 6 start, and 77 Washington employees between September 21 and November 18. The notices establish planned dates, not confirmation of every completed separation.

How many employees has T-Mobile laid off in 2026?

There is no company-wide total in the reviewed filings. Deutsche Telekom's 4,671 decline (6.7%) measures net United States segment full-time equivalents between December 31, 2025 and June 30, 2026, not individual layoffs. WARN amendments and deferred workers also prevent simply adding every notice.

Does T-Mobile give severance?

T-Mobile recorded $531 million in severance costs through June 30, 2026. Its official 2023 package is historical, and no standard 2026 formula appears in the reviewed disclosures. Ask HR for the individual agreement; anonymous reports are unverified.

Will there be more T-Mobile layoffs?

T-Mobile's Q2 2026 10-Q expected nearly all remaining separations under its 2025-2026 Workforce Transformation during 2026 and said it was evaluating further retail restructuring. The filing does not identify the next team or give a new company-wide layoff count.

Is T-Mobile closing stores in 2026?

Yes. T-Mobile began closing certain dealer and corporate-owned stores in the second quarter of 2026 and recorded a $108 million charge for those retail initiatives. Its August 2026 Washington notice lists five stores closing in Seattle, Vancouver, Tacoma, Yakima and Kennewick.

Did T-Mobile lay off retail and customer care workers?

In 2023, no: the CEO's email excluded retail and consumer care experts. In 2026, yes in some places: Washington store managers and mobile associates, virtual business sales staff in Irving, Texas, and business sales care staff in Denver are covered by WARN notices.

How many employees does T-Mobile have?

T-Mobile reported about 75,000 full-time and part-time employees on December 31, 2025. Deutsche Telekom counted 65,365 United States operating segment full-time equivalents on June 30, 2026. The measures and dates differ, so subtracting them does not give a layoff count.

Where can I find T-Mobile WARN notices?

Search the state WARN databases where you work. T-Mobile's 2025-2026 notices appear in Washington's Employment Security Department database, Texas Workforce Commission data, Tennessee's WARN list, Colorado's CDLE list, Illinois workNet monthly reports and New Jersey's WARN archive.
